Betrayal Legacy – Game 4 Review

This is one in a series of posts regarding the board game Betrayal Legacy. You can access all my other Betrayal posts HERE. This post is a review of Game 4, which is designed to give you a feel for the game, whilst containing no spoilers. It assumes you are familiar with Betrayal at House on the Hill.

Winter Comes …

Chapter 4 Card

The 18th Century was coming to a close, and 3 of the 4 players created new characters to, see what was next for the House on the Hill. The Blue player turned this card over after the game setup, and read the introduction to the story. We found, and positioned a needed Room Tile, placed our characters on it, and began the game. We explored for about half an hour, before we needed to draw an Omen card, and had none left in our deck. We revealed the Legacy card to select our Haunt, which now gave three different possibilities, depending on which Room the Haunt revealer was occupying.

A Haunt with no Traitor

Our Haunt was another new Betrayal experience, being fully Co-op, with all of us versus the game. It was a fun twist on a familiar story, nicely tied in to the pregame preamble, that worked well as an automated enemy for us all to combat. It also had a nice penalty in place, so if none of us were attacked by a Monster on the Monster’s turn, then we would all take 2 general damage. This meant we had to try and end our moves each round, so the strongest of us would be vulnerable to an attack, to save the weakest of us from the Monsters. It didn’t always work out, and the Purple player died just before we completed our objective, but in the end the Heroes were triumphant. It took us over 90 minutes to play, and was our longest game to date.

End of Game

The Red player made the final roll of the game, defeating the last monster, and earned him his first “win” of the campaign. He read the triumphant entry in the Bleak Journal, we made the appropriate additions, and changes, to our game decks, and permanently removed some cards from the Purgatory deck, that were “not part of our story”. Our individual fates for this game, are under the Spoiler Tag below.

The Fates of our Players
  • Red – Theloneus Monk, 21, Not the Traitor, Survived. “Burnt some furniture”
  • Blue – Richard Costanza, 21, Not the Traitor, Survived. “Defeated a closet (kinda)”
  • Purple – Mannor Manson, 34, Not the Traitor, Died. “Died to a wardrobe”
  • Green – Charlie Griswold, Now 42, Not the Traitor, Survived, but it was bloody close, “A Tale as old as time”
