Betrayal Legacy – Game 5 Review

This is one in a series of posts regarding the board game Betrayal Legacy. You can access all my other Betrayal posts HERE. This post is a review of Game 5, which is designed to give you a feel for the game, whilst containing no spoilers. It assumes you are familiar with Betrayal at House on the Hill.

I Love a Good Equinox

Chapter 5 Card

We followed the 7 setup steps, and then the Red Player drew this card and read the back. We grabbed specific tiles, added things to the various decks, placed our figures, and the scene was set. During the initial exploration, the Purple player drew an Event card that asked you to mark a check box each time you read it. His was the final time to draw it, a Journal Entry was read, and the card was destroyed, but not before it made another change in our game. Another variation that would make our campaign different to others, and pay off with some future dividends.

A Foreshadowed Haunt

Only 20 minutes in, the Red player drew an Omen, and then triggered the Haunt to draw another one. He was named the Traitor, and we turned to the Haunt in our books. We discovered that an Event card we had drawn in a couple of earlier games, had ties to this particular Haunt. It was another satisfying campaign moment, that these earlier Events, occurring generations in the past, had been a set-up that was now paying off.

Once the Haunt set up was completed, we got confused with the game restart. We gave the first turn to the Monsters, because they were to the left of the Haunt revealer, who was also the Traitor. The Blue player was almost taken out, before the Purple player found the entry in the Rule Book that said the first Hero to the left of the Traitor should take the first turn after the Haunt is triggered. We reset, and tried again.

End of Game

Things went more smoothly for the Heroes the second time around, and we ended up winning without taking any casualties. I, the Green Player, made the winning roll, and so had my second win overall. The campaign story moved forward, and a whole new deck of cards was added to the game. We didn’t look through them, but reset, and launched immediately into Game 6.
