Aeon’s End: Legacy – Hints & Tips for Game 3

This is one in a series of posts regarding the board game Aeon’s End: Legacy. You can access all my other posts HERE. This post contains Hints & Tips for the third game of the campaign, and will contain Spoilers from Games 1 & 2. You have been warned.

Breach IV

Early in the last battle, every player gained access to Breach IV. (Though there is a very slight chance you could have defeated Bladius early enough, (or, I guess, all died quickly enough) that the Breach would be added after the battle.) Opening the Box to retrieve the new Breaches will reveal them to have a +1 attack. Each spell cast from an opened IV Breach will deal an additional damage.

Insight #3

There are stickers for the 4 player boards, that show the placement of Breach IV. But you will notice that the cut lines are incorrect, and the curve for the top right of the board is actually at the bottom left. We suggest that you cut them to fit with scissors before your apply them.

End of Game 2

If you are unsuccessful, you do not fight Bladius again. Put the Bladius cards in front of his divider, and put the basic nemesis cards in front of the their divider. You will use all of them to create the nemesis decks from this point on. The instructions for removing cards during the Bladius fight, will have created the correct deck size for your player count. It is important to note that when ever you Evolve a card, that would cause you to gain a new card from the Evolve deck, you remove the previous card, so that the basic card count stays the same.

Insight #4

One of the first things you do after Game 4 is to add an ability to your character. Choose 1 each from the 8 available. They can be cast when you accumulate 6 charges. All of these abilities activate during your main phase. They can’t be used during your casting phase.

It is also important to note the distinction between “any ally” which is any player other than yourself, and “any player” which includes yourself.

Supply Cards from deck II

The second half of deck II contains 4 new supply cards. You must use 2 of them, to replace 2 existing supply cards. Replac like for like, and it’s important to keep a gem that costs 3 aether in the supply.

All of the new supply cards take advantage of the newly added charge tokens.

In Search of Power

The setup for Chapter 3 is next. It is under Spoiler Tags.

Aeon's End: Legacy - Envelope 3

Enveloper Chapter 3 - In Search of Power

Shield tokens are introduced in Chapter 3. You will find minions with 1 or more shields going forward. Shields absorb all the damage from an attack, and then get discarded. If you attack a minion with a shield for 1 damage, or 9 damage, the net result is the same: no damage is dealt to the minion, then discard 1 shield. Sparks become very useful for getting rid of shields, before better spells deal more damage to the minion.

Aeon's End: Legacy - Shield Tokens

As well as the Shield tokens, we receive Malastar’s Gift. It gives a one time bonus during your second attempt to defeat a nemesis. Hopefully, it’s something you will never have to use.

Put the Spawning Horror divider into the box, and place the nemesis mat in front of you.

Deck III
Nemesis Cards

Open deck III, remove cards until you get to the Stop card in the middle of the deck, then place the remainder of the deck in front of the Current Deck divider. These are the specific Spawning Horror nemesis cards. The 0 cards are the Breeding Chamber, and a series of Pod cards which should all be shuffled together. Place the Breeding Chamber and the Pod deck next to the Spawning Horror mat. Place 4 life tokens on the Breeding Chamber, unless it is a game with 4 mages, in which case it starts with just 1. The Breeding Chamber gains life on the Unleash keyword. You can attack it to reduce its life down to a minimum of 1. Keep on top of the Breeding Chambers life, and there will be less Pods for you to worry about.

Aeon's End: Legacy - Spawning Horror

Of course you still need to fight the minions from the regular nemesis deck and reduce Spawning Horrors life down to 0, so it’s a matter of priorities.

Nemesis Deck

The remaining Spawning Horror cards have numbers 1, 2 or 3 on them. And depending on the number of mages in play, more basic nemesis cards will be added from the Legacy deck. Use these new cards, along with those kept from the fight with Bladius, to make the nemesis deck. Shuffle all the 3 cards together and place them face down, then shuffle all the 2 cards and add them, face down, to top of the 3s, and finally shuffle the 1 cards and place them face down on the top of the pile. This is how you will construct the nemesis deck for each battle moving forward.

Losing the First Attempt

If you lose on your first attempt, you rebuild the nemesis deck, and start again. The second time you fight a nemesis, you DO NOT EVOLVE cards. This will allow you to discard some immediately without having to evolve them. You also get to use Malastar’s Gift to help make things easier.
