Aeon’s End: Legacy – Unboxing

This is one in a series of posts regarding the board game Aeon’s End: Legacy. You can access all my other posts HERE.

The Legacy version of Aeon’s End is the 3rd big box set, after Aeon’s End and Aeon’s End: War Eternal. It is a great introduction to the Aeon’s End universe, starting with the basic game mechanics, and adding complexities throughout the campaign.

The Legacy Box is a larger affair than the other sets, with a minimalist black case.

First thing inside the box is the one sheet that shows the set up for the first game. In bold at the top, just to the right of a stop sign, it reads “Before opening any of the decks of cards, please read the rulebook.” You should definitely heed this advice, as the game contains many, many decks of cards.

Then there is the rulebook, which begins with the continuation of the Aeon’s End story. Not knowing “the story so far” will not affect game play, and you will get a sense of how rich the lore is as you progress through the campaign.

The rules are clear and very well written. And the book has plenty of spaces for new rules, added via stickers, during the campaign.

Then there are a whole collection of “Insights”. These are stickers that will modify the rule book, and the playing elements, as you progress through the campaign.

There are 7 envelopes inside the box. Do not open them until asked to. Plenty of fun will be inside.

There 4 double sided player mats have a different gendered character on each side. Aside from the art, all the player mats are identical to each other, and on both sides. The mages become individuals, as the Insights are revealed, and choices are made. There are plenty of spaces for stickers on the mats.

Then inside the box is a punch board of tokens, a large collection of sealed decks, and dividers, to help organise the game. Along with some dials to track health/life, some “breaches” and 4 boxes labeled A through D. All kept nicely in place by a super functional insert.

The card organisation in Aeon’s End is what you would expect from a high end deck builder. Cards from each opened deck find a home in the card well. I will explain more about that in my next post.
