Dragonvale – Winter Event 2021 – Breeding a Snowflake 7 dragon

After some back and forth with the players, DECA have made the Snowflake 7 dragon breedable. I ran some numbers below.

snowflake + snowflake

On paper, all the Snowflake dragons require 2 snowflake dragons to breed them. They are set up so that their single parent cloning chance is 0%. For some reason, it doesn’t quite work that way, and it is possible to single parent clone a Snowflake dragon. Because we don’t have the numbers on that, and we don’t think it’s a very large chance, I have ignored that for the following calculations.

All the snowflake dragons share cold & water, plus 1 other element. We have plant, fire, earth, lightning, air & light covered. For some reason, Snowflake dragons 6 & 7 both share earth. And none of them share metal or dark. Using the plant element usually gives the shortest fails, and this is shared by Snowflake 5. So let’s look at breeding 2 of them together.

First things to notice, Snowflake dragons 1 & 2 have a breeding chance of 20% each. You are going to breed a lot of them, which is fine, because they only take 2.5 hours. Snowflake dragons 3 & 4 have a 5% chance. And Snowflakes 5, 6 & 7 each have a 1% chance. So … not a lot. The average fail time is only 9.87 hours. But the 1% chance means 69 attempts are required for a 50/50 shot of breeding one. This equates to 28.38 days of non stop breeding. Hopefully you have an upgraded cave, which will drop it down by 20%, but still more than 3 weeks, if you don’t spend any gems to speed up the fails.

Now, followers of my blog will know I’m a big fan of adding fire to the mix with a plant elements, because there is a heap of short breeds. Snowflake dragon 3 adds fire, so let’s look at the numbers of breeding a 3 and a 5 together.

The main problem with add the fire element via a Snowflake dragon, is that you don’t get the 10% cloning bonus, of a 30 minute breed time, that we would normal get from using a Poison dragon. So the average fail time actually increases slightly to 10.17 hours. The extra dragon fails increase the total set % to over 100%, and our 1% drops to 0.8%. This increases the attempts needed for a 50/50 shot to 87. That blows things out to 36.86 days, so way worse than using 2 Snowflake 5 dragons.

Because I was here, I pulled up the numbers for using 2 Snowflake 3 dragons.

Snowflake 3 + Snowflake 3

Slightly longer average fail time than the Snowflake 5, and a day longer for the even money chance. Not too much longer in the scheme of things, but it might make all the difference. So my recommendation is

Snowflake 5 + Snowflake 5. And because they’re not easily labelled in the game, it’s the dragon that looks like this.

Good luck.
