My City – Hints & Tips – Chapter 6

This is one in a series of posts regarding the legacy game, My City. You can access all my posts on that game HERE.

The sixth envelope contains the elements required for The Mine, Episodes 16, 17 & 18. Opening up the envelope will give you access to everything you need for the next 3 games. But I will reveal the information needed for each of those episodes one at a time, under the individual spoiler tags below.

Chapter 6 – The Mine

My City Envelope 6

Episode 16
Industrialization has led to an enormous demand for resources in all areas. Mining is becoming a very lucrative income source.

Prep for Chapter 6

There are 2 sets of stickers in Envelope 6, some of which you need for Episode 16.

My City Chapter 6 Stickers

First, there are the mine shafts; a large sticker which you add to your player board underneath your gold cabinet. And then there the blue mine entrance sticker, which you place over the rocks at A3. You will add the red mine entrance in episode 17, and the yellow mine entrance in episode 18.

My City Chapter 6 Mine Shifts

The Rewards of Mining

From now on you can gain additional benefits from each mine. Each shaft has a series of numbered boxes. Some of those boxes have rewards that you receive when you reach, or exceed, that depth.

Blue buildings placed in contiguous groups, that start at either square adjacent to the blue mine entrance, count towards deepening the blue mine shaft. Count them all up at the end of the game, and starting at the top, place an X in a mine shaft square, for each building.

My City Chapter 6 Scoring the Mines

If you mark a box with a reward in it, in game 16, you gain that reward. However, if the reward space has a triangle in the top right corner, the reward is only gained by those that reach that reward in the same episode. Players that don’t receive a reward, that is received by other players, mark it with 1 diagonal line. They will not receive the reward when they complete the X in a future game.

This makes it important to keep up with the other players, so as not to miss out on those bonuses. 6 blue buildings in episode 16 will get you to the first reward.

My City Mine Shaft Rewards

That’s all you need to start episode 16, but there are more gold nuggets on this sticker sheet. The first player(s) to cover both gold veins will receive a gold nugget for their cabinet. Remember you can take turns 1 at a time as players get close to covering both veins.

  • The player with the most progress circles coloured in goes first.
  • If there is a tie, then the player with the most progress circles AND the most gold nuggets goes first.
  • If there is still a tie, then the player with the most progress circles AND the most gold nuggets AND is the oldest goes first.
  • Turns continue clockwise from the player who has gone first.

The rules are the same as Episode 15.

Rules
  • Your first building must be built next to the river.
  • You may NOT build over forests.
  • Churches must be built. You cannot pass when you draw a Church.
  • You cannot pass if your score is on 0. Points must be earned via the Investor before you can pass.
  • Negative points are not capped when you reach 0, when scoring. If you are losing points for rocks and you drop below 0, you must keep track of the negative number, to take it off any future points you earn.
Scoring

Scoring is the same as episode 15.

My City Episode 16 Rules

The player with the most points colours in 2 circles and places a sticker with 2 rocks on an empty green square with a small green square in the center. In a game with 3 or more players, the player with the second most points colours in 1 circle. Any player that doesn’t colour in a circle, turns one of their industrial buildings into a factory.

Then each player counts up their contiguous blue buildings placed next to their blue mine entrances, and marks an X for each building. They claim rewards as they are achieved. And players who don’t receive a “triangle reward” claimed by others, mark that reward with a single line.

Episode 17
Each player adds the red mine entrance sticker to their player board, on spaces A5 & B5. At the end of this episode, players will deepen the mine shaft for both the blue and red mines, according to the contiguous groups of coloured buildings next to the mine entrances.

End of Chapter Bonus

It’s also revealed in this episode, that there is an end of chapter bonus. At the end of episode 18, there is a bonus for the players with the most gold.

  • The player with the most gold colours in 2 circles.
  • The player with the second most gold colours in 1 circle.
  • If more than 1 player ties for the most gold, then they all colour in 2 circles, and there is no other bonus assigned.
  • If there is just 1 player with the most gold, but more than 1 has the second most, then each of the latter colour in 1 circle.
Scoring

The rules, scoring and rewards are identical to Episode 16.

My City Episode 17 Rules

Then each player marks an X in their blue and red mine shafts equal to the number of buildings of the matching colour, next to each mine entrance. They claim rewards as they are achieved. And players who don’t receive a “triangle reward” claimed by others, mark that reward with a single line.

Episode 18
Each player adds the yellow mine entrance sticker to their player board at A7.

My City Episode 18 Rules

Then each player marks an X in their blue, red and yellow mine shafts equal to the number of buildings of the matching colour, next to each mine entrance. They claim rewards as they are achieved. And players who don’t receive a “triangle reward” claimed by others, mark that reward with a single line.

Then, the player(s) with the most gold in their cabinet(s) colour in 2 circles. If only 1 player has the most gold, then the player(s) with the second most gold, colour in 1 circle.

And finally, the gold rush comes to an end. Each player places a blank light green square over both gold veins on their board, at A8 & K1. There is no longer a bonus for the first player to build over both gold veins. But gold can still be collected in the 3 mines shafts.
