Continued from My guess, at my daughters rankings, of all 23 MCU movies
Before I reveal how I did, a quick recap of scoring. I start with 23 points. I gain 1 point for each ranking I have correct. For each ranking I have incorrect, I lose 1 point for how wrong I am (how many positions out I was).
So first up, I got none of them correct. So no bonus points. And as I must lose at least 1 point for each movie I didn’t place correctly, I must be at least 0. And actually, because there are an odd number of movies, there must be at least 1 movie that is out by at least 2 spots, so I must be at least -1.
In reality, I obviously did way worse than that. 🙂
Out by 1 or 2 Positions
8 movies were out by just 1 spot. And 4 were out by 2 spots. So 50% were close. I had 75% that close when guessing my son’s Pixar ratings. So I guess I am only two thirds as good, at knowing my daughters thoughts on the MCU. Assuming that tracks; I lost 44 points when guessing the Pixar ratings, so I should lose about 66 points on this, giving me a score of -43. Let’s see how we go.
The Tally
I started with 23, and I have -16 for the ones that are out by up to 2 spots. Down to +7 points.
The Incredible Hulk, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Black Panther and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, were all 3/4 spots lower than I guessed. That’s another 13 points gone, for a running total of -6.
Ant-Man was 5 spots higher than I guessed. I knew the sequel was not well liked, but they obviously were fonder of the original. -11
Spider-Man: Homecoming was 6 spots lower than I had. They’re big Tom Holland fans, but I obviously had the 2 Spider-Man movies juxtaposed. More on that below. -17
Captain America: Civil War was 7 spots higher than I had. This one surprised me. They are no fans of Tony Stark, and this is quite a Tony Stark centric movie. And having a compelling villain is important, and I personally don’t find that here. But anyway, here we are. -24
Captain America: The First Avenger was 8 spots lower than I had. Cest la vie. -32
Doctor Strange is the 4th last film on the list, and 10 spots lower than I had it. I know they are not fans of the character, but this one surprised me as well. There is so much interesting stuff in this movie. Anyway, -42 … oops.
Spider-Man: Far from Home. Their favourite movie, and 11 spots higher than I placed it. Again, I had these 2 reversed. -53
And my biggest failing, Iron Man 3. 14 spots higher than I had it, making it into the top third, instead of second to last, where I had placed it. I’m not sure what the redeeming features are in this one, that are lacking in the first two. A better villain, apparently. Anyway, the final tally is
-67
Just terrible. By any standard. 🙂
