2020 Game Play Overview

2020 Game Play Overview

4 more plays than in 2019, and an extra 50 hours of play. The extra time is mostly due to a weekly Gloomhaven game with my daughter and her husband, who relocated back to Brisbane at the start of 2019. Also, the Australian and Queensland governments did a pretty good job of handling COVID so we didn’t really have any lockdown time which kept family from visiting each others houses. The closure of my local game store did end my foray into Keyforge games, so I played with only 17 different people this year, instead of the number of relative “strangers” I was interacting with in 2019. Family and a coworker for lunch time games makes up almost the entirety people I played with in 2020.

Goals

I easily made the 366 game goal once again. I tried for a 12×12 this year; playing 12 games, once per month. I did not quite make it.

2020 10 Play Games

1 more play of Codenames could have done it. Or if Machi Koro Legacy was a 12 game campaign. Or a couple more lunch time plays of Abortetum. Anyway …

The Game overtook The Mind to take the most played spot. And the “most weekends” routine of Gloomhaven pushed it into the second most played, but easily the most hours played. Legendary remains solid at number 3, with a few more plays, and 10 more hours. Cribbage and Carcassonne became lunch time regulars. 3 sets of Aeon’s End got more than a dozen plays, as will Outcasts this year, I’m sure.

2020 Total Game Plays

My other goal was to play a further 24 games, 6 times each. This was way too ambitious, and I fell way short.

Goals for 2021

Keeping it simple this year.

  • 365+ total plays.
  • 6 games played 24 times.
  • A further 48 games played 2 times.

All the best for 2021. Stay safe.
